A. Pengertian Produksi
Jika tidak ada proses produksi, nasi yang setiap hari kita makan hanya akan menjadi padi di sawah. Jika tidak ada proses produksi, maka baju yang kita kenakan hanya akan tetap menjadi kapas atau bambu. Tidak akan ada mobil dan sepeda motor yang lalu lalang di sekitar kita tanpa pengolahan besi dan logam lainnya.
Dengan demikian, produksi adalah sebuah proses yang dilakukan untuk menciptakan atau menambah nilai guna dari barang atau jasa. Jika pertambahan nilai guna dilakukan tanpa merubah bentuk produk, maka disebut sebagai produksi jasa seperti jasa konseling, jasa les pelajaran, jasa konsultan keuangan, dan sebagainya. Sementara pertambahan nilai guna yang diikuti dengan perubahan bentuk produk disebut produksi barang. Contoh produksi barang adalah sebagai berikut membangun rumah, membuat sepatu, memasak nasi, dan lain-lainnya.
Dengan demikian, produksi mempunyai dua nilai pokok. Yang pertama untuk menciptakan nilai guna barang atau jasa. Kedua, menambah nilai guna barang atau jasa.
Barang atau jasa hasil produksi ada yang bisa digunakan secara langsung maupun tidak langsung. Biasanya hasil produksi yang tidak bisa langsung digunakan diolah lagi untuk menjadi produk lain yang memiliki nilai lebih tinggi.
Pada hakikatnya, produksi adalah proses penciptaan ada penambahan nilai guna dari barang atau jasa bentuk yang diikuti oleh penambahan manfaat, bentuk, waktu, tempat atas faktor-faktor produksi sehingga dari produksi tersebut memiliki kemampuan lebih tinggi dalam memenuhi kebutuhan pemakainya.
Pada umumnya, produksi dari sudut pandang perusahaan bertujuan untuk memperoleh keuntungan yang maksimal. Oleh karena itu, sebelum produksi dilakukan, perlu dilakukan persiapan dan manajemen yang cermat.
B. Fungsi Produksi
Dari penjelasan di atas, kegiatan produksi memiliki fungsi yang sangat penting. Berikut ini merupakan fungsi-fungsi produksi:
1. Perencanaan
Perencanaan pada produksi dapat diartikan sebagai melaksanakan kegiatan produksi barang atau jasa pada waktu tertentu yang disesuaikan dengan forecast yang telah disusun. Penyusunan forecast tersebut dilakukan dengan sistem yang terorganisir mulai dari sumber daya manusia, bahan baku, ketersediaan ruang pada gudang, alat, dan lain-lain.
Perencanaan produksi mempengaruhi besarnya keuntungan yang dicapai oleh sebuah perusahaan. Karena perencanaan yang baik dapat memperkirakan produksi yang kualitas dan kuantitasnya tepat dan menjamin keberadaan stock. Tidak kurang dan tidak lebih terlalu banyak. Stock kurang bisa mengakibatkan konsumen beralih ke produk lain yang sejenis karena kehabisan. Sementara kelebihan stock berisiko kadaluarsa sementara barang belum terjual habis.
Bisa disimpulkan, perencanaan produksi dilakukan agar perusahaan dapat bekerja secara efektif dan efisien sehingga dapat menghasilkan keuntungan sebesar-besarnya. Karena forecast tersebut disesuaikan dengan permintaan pasar, maka diharapkan perencanaan dapat menjadikan kinerja perusahaan lebih baik.
Perencanaan produksi perlu mempengaruhi beberapa faktor di bawah ini, yaitu:
a. Kualitas produk
Kualitas produk sangat perlu untuk direncanakan dengan baik, baik dari siapa pasar yang dituju, keeksklusifannya (premium, medium, atau ekonomis), dan harganya. Karena setiap segmen pasar memiliki standar kualitas yang berbeda.
b. Biaya produk
Biaya produksi meliputi bahan, alat, tenaga kerja, dan semua yang terlibat dalam produksi pasti memerlukan biaya. Hal ini harus dimasukkan ke dalam perencanaan produksi agar tidak rugi (biaya produksi lebih besar dari harga jual).
c. Waktu pengembangan produk
Di awal meluncurkan produk tidak serta merta perusahaan langsung mendapatkan untung. Terkadang perlu beberapa waktu untuk mencapai balik modal atau yang kita kenal dengan istilah break event point. Poin ini juga mengisyaratkan ketanggapan perusahaan dalam mengikuti perkembangan teknologi.
d. Biaya pengembangan produk
Sebuah perusahaan yang tidak melakukan inovasi produk bisa saja mengalami kebangkrutan. Hal ini sudah banyak tertulis di dalam sejarah. Perusahaan yang dulunya menjadi raksasa merasa akan menjadi penguasa pasar selamanya sementara dia tidak melakukan inovasi. Pada akhirnya mereka dikalahkan oleh bisnis-bisnis kecil yang tidak henti melakukan inovasi.
Oleh karena itu, pengembangan produk dilakukan, di antaranya melakukan survei pasar, riset, dan pengujian. Tentunya hal ini membutuhkan biaya.
e. Kapabilitas pengembangan
Kapabilitas pengembangan merupakan aset yang dimiliki perusahaan untuk mengembangkan produk.
2. Pengolahan
Pengolahan dalam kegiatan produksi merupakan sebuah fase di mana bahan baku diolah menjadi barang mentah, barang setengah jadi, atau barang jadi.
3. Pengendalian dan Perawatan
Pengendalian dan perawatan di sini berfungsi untuk mengevaluasi dan mengawasi jalannya produksi agar sesuai dengan perencanaan. Di dalam perusahaan, penting sekali untuk melakukan pembagian tugas antara perencana, pelaksana, dan pengawas agar produk yang dihasilkan sesuai dengan standar perusahaan.
4. Jasa penunjang
Fungsi ini untuk meningkatkan cara kerja produksi. Terkadang proses produksi begitu lamban, gemuk, dan ribet. Tidak jarang ada metode yang lebih efektif dan efisien dan jasa penunjang berfungsi untuk itu.
C. Tujuan Produksi
Pentingnya kegiatan produksi bukan tanpa tujuan. Produksi memiliki tujuan sebagai berikut:
1. Memenuhi kebutuhan konsumen
Masyarakat memiliki beragam kebutuhan yang harus dipenuhi. Kebutuhan yang tidak terpenuhi, Mulai dari kebutuhan primer, sekunder, hingga tersier, dapat menjadikan kehidupan manusia tidak seimbang.
Pakaian, makanan dan minuman, tempat tinggal, pendidikan, kesehatan, informasi, komunikasi, gaya hidup, dan lain sebagainya merupakan contoh konkret dari kebutuhan manusia. Oleh karena itu, produsen memproduksi produk-produk yang dibutuhkan oleh konsumen tersebut dengan cara menciptakan nilai guna atau menambahkan nilai guna.
2. Memperoleh keuntungan
Bagi produsen, produksi bertujuan agar perusahaan mendapatkan keuntungan. Dengan menciptakan atau memberikan nilai guna pada sebuah produk, produsen dapat mengambil selisih dari harga jual dan biaya produksi.
Produk yang dikonsumsi oleh masyarakat dibeli dan produsen mendapatkan pemasukan. Semakin baik perencanaan produksinya, semakin besar keuntungan yang didapatkan.
3. Menghasilkan barang setengah jadi
Barang setengah jadi yang diproduksi perlu diolah lebih lanjut sampai dapat dikonsumsi langsung oleh masyarakat.
4. Menjadi stimulan tumbuhnya usaha produksi lain
Adanya produksi suatu produk dapat memicu muncul usaha produk lain yang berkaitan. Misalnya institusi pendidikan tinggi sebagai produsen jasa pendidikan. Di area dekat kampus tersebut akan muncul usaha kos-kosan, usaha warung makan dan jajanan, pelayanan kesehatan, minimarket, pasar tradisional, angkutan, jasa terjemah, dan sebagainya.
5. Mengurangi angka pengangguran
Proses produksi perusahaan mulai dari skala kecil dan menengah tidak mungkin dilakukan seorang diri oleh owner-nya. Bagaimanapun ingin menekan biaya produksi memerlukan bantuan orang lain. Oleh karena itu, dibutuhkan karyawan dengan cara melakukan perekrutan. Dari rekrutmen ini menambah angka pekerja di Indonesia dan mengurangi angka pengangguran. Semakin besar perusahaan, semakin besar menyerap tenaga kerja.
6. Meningkatkan penghasilan masyarakat dan negara
Berkurangnya pengangguran tentu meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat. Semakin banyak masyarakat yang sejahtera, semakin banyak masyarakat membelanjakan keuangannya untuk mengkonsumsi makanan dan minuman, berwisata, dan membayar pajak. Dengan demikian, semakin lancar pergerakan ekonomi negara dan pendapatan negara pun naik.
7. Menjadikan produksi Indonesia dikenal di dunia internasional
Kegiatan produksi seringkali tidak hanya ditujukan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan lokal atau domestik. Tidak jarang pasar luar negeri juga membutuhkan produk-produk yang dihasilkan oleh produsen Indonesia. Sebut saja sambal pecel, kerupuk, arang batok kelapa, sabut kelapa, furniture, rempah-rempah, dan lain-lain.
D. Jenis-jenis Produksi
1. Berdasarkan produk yang dihasilkan
Produksi terbagi menjadi beberapa jenis di bawah ini, yaitu:
a. Produksi Ekstraktif
Produksi ini melakukan eksplorasi sumber daya alam tanpa mengubah sifat dan bentuk apapun. Hasil ekstraksi kemudian diserahkan kepada perusahaan lain untuk diolah lebih lanjut menjadi barang baru yang memiliki nilai guna lebih tinggi.
Contoh: penambangan bahan tambang, penangkapan ikan di laut, dan pengeboran minyak bumi.
b. Produk Agraris
Produksi jenis ini mengolah alam dan memanfaatkan tanah agar dapat menghasilkan sumber daya alam yang berupa barang setengah jadi atau barang jadi. Hal ini tidak hanya mencakup pertanian saja, namun juga peternakan.
Contoh: padi, sayur-sayuran, buah-buahan, susu, telur, jagung, dan lain-lain.
c. Produksi Industri
Produksi jenis ini mengolah bahan mentah atau bahan baku menjadi barang setengah jadi atau barang jadi. Produksi jenis ini menambah nilai guna agar dapat dimanfaatkan oleh manusia dengan pemanfaatan yang lebih baik lagi.
Contoh: pakaian, sepeda motor, mobil, pesawat terbang, pakan ternak, obat, alat kesehatan, makanan dan minuman, jilbab, mesin, alat elektronik, dan lain-lain.
d. Produksi Perdagangan
Produksi jenis ini bergerak dengan menghubungkan antara produsen dengan konsumen agar barang yang diproduksi dapat beredar luas di pasaran. Penyaluran barang dari produsen ke konsumen terbagi menjadi beberapa jenis, yakni:
1). Langsung dari produsen ke konsumen
Perdagangan yang langsung dilakukan sendiri oleh produsen. Biasanya produksi seperti ini dilakukan oleh pengusaha-pengusaha skala kecil atau perusahaan besar yang memiliki sistem marketing retail.
Contoh: pembuat pentol menjual langsung ke konsumen bakso.
2). Semi langsung
Perdagangan ini melalui perantara. Konsumen membeli barang tidak langsung ke produsen, melainkan ke pedagang eceran. Jadi, produsen menjual barang ke pedagang eceran.
Contoh: reseller, warung, toko, minimarket, dan supermarket.
3) Tidak langsung
Perdagangan ini dilakukan dengan urutan produsen- pedagang grosir/agen/ distributor- pedagang eceran- konsumen.
e. Produksi Jasa
Produksi jasa merupakan produksi yang menghasilkan produk bukan berupa barang, namun berupa jasa. Dalam melakukan produksi ini dibutuhkan keahlian tertentu. Hasil dari produksi jasa berwujud tidak konkret, tidak kasat mata, dan tidak bisa dipegang, namun keberadaannya dapat dirasakan manfaatnya.
Contoh: jasa konseling, jasa keuangan, jasa pendidikan, transportasi, dan lain-lain.
2. Berdasarkan jangka waktu dan prosesnya
Produksi dapat dibedakan menjadi:
a. Produksi berjangka pendek
Merupakan produksi yang prosesnya berlangsung cepat dan dinikmati segera oleh konsumen. Jenis produksi ini merupakan jenis produksi yang pertama kali muncul di Indonesia. Hasil dari produksi berjangka pendek mudah ditemukan dan sifatnya sangat mendasar. Sebut saja jajanan pasar, nasi pecel, dan sate adalah contoh-contoh dari produksi berjangka pendek.
1). Produksi berjangka panjang
Dari judulnya sudah dapat kita tebak bahwa produksi jangka panjang membutuhkan waktu yang panjang agar produk dapat dinikmati atau dimanfaatkan oleh konsumen. Proses produksinya pun tidak sesederhana produksi jangka pendek. Budidaya ikan lele, pembangunan rumah, budidaya lobster merupakan beberapa contoh dari produksi berjangka panjang.
2). Produksi terus-menerus atau berkelanjutan
Dalam prosesnya menghasilkan produk, proses dan waktu yang dibutuhkan memerlukan kelanjutan yang kontinu. Dalam proses, produksi jenis ini menggabungkan bahan lain atau alat lainnya agar hasil produksi dapat terselesaikan. Pembuatan gula, karet, mie kering, merupakan beberapa contoh dari produksi jenis ini.
3). Produksi berselingan
Produksi ini menggunakan beberapa bahan baku yang kemudian digabungkan agar menghasilkan barang baru. Contoh: sepeda motor, pesawat terbang, mesin, dan lain-lain.

F. Faktor-faktor yang Memengaruhi Produksi
Produksi dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor kunci yang mempengaruhi kualitas dan kuantitasnya. Faktor-faktor ini penting untuk dijadikan pertimbangan dalam mengambil kebijakan perusahaan. Faktor-faktor tersebut bisa kita pelajari di bawah ini.
1. Sumber daya alam (SDA)
Sumber daya alam merupakan segala sesuatu yang terdapat di alam dan manusia data memanfaatkannya untuk memenuhi kebutuhan hidupnya. Sumber daya alam menjadi faktor penting dalam produksi karena ketersediaannya mempengaruhi jalannya produksi. Sumber daya alam yang tidak mendukung kebutuhan perusahaan akan membuat biaya produksi naik dan hal tersebut mengakibatkan harga jual tinggi dan tidak kompetitif.
Misalkan pabrik pengolahan tambang biasanya tidak jauh letaknya dari pusat penambangan. Pengolahan kayu biasanya tidak jauh dari hutan. Contoh sumber daya alam seperti air, udara, hewan, tumbuhan, tambang, minyak bumi, dan gas bumi.
2. Sumber daya manusia (SDM)
SDM memegang peranan penting dalam sebuah unit usaha. Produksi tidak akan berhasil jika tidak didukung oleh SDM yang memiliki skill. Meskipun SDA melimpah tetapi SDM yang ada tidak mempunyai kemampuan untuk mengolahnya, maka SDA tersebut tidak akan termanfaatkan dengan optimal.
Oleh karena itu, sebelum melakukan produksi, memastikan kemampuan SDM perusahaan merupakan hal yang penting. SDM yang ditempatkan pada bidang keahliannya akan membantu kinerja perusahaan untuk menghasilkan keuntungan yang maksimal.
Berdasarkan kualitasnya, SDM dapat terbagi menjadi beberapa kelompok, yakni:
a. Tenaga kerja terdidik
Tenaga kerja yang memiliki pendidikan formal dan resmi dalam melakukan pekerjaannya. Contoh: dokter, perawat, apoteker, arsitek, dan dosen.
b. Tenaga kerja terampil
Tenaga kerja yang memiliki keterampilan tertentu dalam melakukan pekerjaannya. Keterampilan yang dimiliki ini didapatkan dari seringnya berlatih dan mengasah kemampuan. Tenaga kerja terampil tidak harus melalui pendidikan formal dalam menjalankan pekerjaannya. Contoh: penjahit, chef, dan supir.
c. Tenaga kerja tidak terdidik dan tidak terlatih
Tenaga kerja yang selama melaksanakan pekerjaannya tidak harus melalui pendidikan formal dan harus memiliki keterampilan tertentu. Contoh: asisten rumah tangga dan petugas kebersihan.
3. Sumber Daya Modal
Untuk menjalankan unit bisnis, modal adalah hal yang mutlak harus dimiliki oleh produsen. Modal tidak harus selalu berupa uang, namun juga bisa berupa gedung, surat berharga hak paten, ketrampilan, kendaraan, mesin, dan bangunan.
4. Keahlian
Agar produksi berjalan lancar seseorang diharuskan memiliki keahlian. Setidaknya perusahaan yang akan melakukan proses produksi perlu memiliki keahlian dalam perencanaan (planning), pengorganisasian (organizing), pergerakan (actuating), dan pengawasan (controlling).
